Mercury relaxing after passing his CGC test, summer 2018.
The Canine Good Citizen Class is designed to help you get your dog ready to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. At the end of the class the test will be administered. While there are no age restrictions, we do suggest that dogs go through other training classes before this one, such as our other Obedience Classes so that they are familiar with basic obedience before jumping into this class and test.
A few of the things your dog will learn in this class:
→ Learning how to behave responsibly around other dogs and people in general
→ Desensitization to loud noises and distractions
→ Allowing the trainer to groom the dog and check their ears and feet
→ Heeling on a loose leash around distractions, including crowds of people
→ Sit and down on command and staying
→ Coming when called
→ Reactions to other dogs
→ Supervised separation from the owner
This class is held once a week for 5 weeks. Each session is 1 hour long. Please see the registration page for the available class times.
Please note that there are minimum health requirements in terms of vaccines and clean bill of health for dogs enrolling in this class. For more information on the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test requirements, please take a look at the Brochure.
Be sure to check out ourTerms and Conditions page for information regarding registration policies, health requirements, etc.
At Canine Coaching Institute, LLC we are force, pain, fear and dominance free which means that we do not use tools or methods that inflict physical or psychological pain or discomfort on a dog. Instead we focus on positive reinforcement of desired behaviors using rewards such as treats, praise and toys. This lays a foundation for trust between the handler and the dog and will help promote a spirit of cooperation in the relationship. We offer private in-home training, group classes, minor to moderate behavioral training and specialty training such as therapy and service dog training. We pride ourselves in being flexible trainers that can find ways to work with practically any type of dog.
